What is Copper Used For?

Paul Faillace January 29, 2021 About Engineering Leave a Comment

Copper is one of the many precious metals that are used for manufacturing. It is used in everything from electronic components to plumbing fixtures. For thousands of years, copper has been mined around the world. Copper can be found in several veins and deposits around the world today, including Canada, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Venezuela, and the United States.

Copper is used as a metal in the electronics industry, where it is used in wiring, connectors, and computer hardware. Another use is in plumbing, particularly in the plumbing of buildings and homes. The reasons that copper compounds are used in these products are due to its physical properties, which include extreme electrical conductivity and extreme malleability, meaning that it can be shaped into the exact form needed for plumbing applications. For the right Copper Pipe for your needs, visit a site like Watkins and Powis, suppliers of Copper Pipe ranges.

The physical properties of copper alloys mean that they are able to conduct electrical currents at much higher temperatures than iron or steel. Additionally, copper wire does not become brittle nor does it experience mechanical stresses when it is placed through bending, twisting, or turning. The ability to bend and fold ductile copper wire allows for smaller, more intricate shapes than would be possible with other materials.
