The German company STIHL is one of the leaders in the market of garden equipment. Over its 90-year history, the name of the company has become synonymous with advanced technology. September 18, 2018 in Waiblingen, the company’s specialists held a press conference and presented new developments that will soon enter our lives.

From smart home to smart forest, or new smart landscape design solutions

Last year, STIHL took a number of steps to accelerate the introduction of new digital technologies in its products.

An intelligent garden  irrigation system and a robotic mower controlled by an application on a phone or tablet from anywhere in the world have been proposed for a Smart Garden.

The  concept of virtual and augmented reality for training in working with the company’s products and the world’s first gasoline chains with a fuel consumption control sensor has been developed for the Smart Forest.

New STIHL Products

At the International Day STIHL (Media Day) were presented new items

STIHL connect pro

STIHL connect pro is a cloud-based solution for efficiently managing digital technology. It will make it easier for landscape designers and municipalities to work with a large number of specialized equipment and people at different sites. However, this technology will be useful to ordinary summer residents, as it will store all the information about the condition of the equipment and will allow it to be diagnosed and repaired as soon as possible.

How does the STIHL connect pro system work?

The system consists of the STIHL Smart Connector device and the STIHL application, to which instrument data is transmitted via Bluetooth. The electronic intelligent system identifies all STIHL products, and it is also capable of detecting some units from other manufacturers. Through the cloud, the system connects them into a single network and stores all the information about the location, operating time and their technical condition.

Outwardly, it looks like this: a small Smart Connector is installed on the unit, which records the location and hours of operation and then transfers them through the user’s smartphone or tablet to the STIHL cloud. The user of the system – the coordinator of work – receives through the STIHL connect pro portal a detailed overview of the status of all machines and relevant data. This allows you to manage units and tasks directly through the application: you can send tasks to employees through the application, monitor their implementation, view maintenance recommendations and agree on the timing of work.

Watering Controller: Smart Garden Hub STIHL GCI 100

Intelligent technology allows you to fully control the watering of small summer cottages, large parks and sports grounds. The irrigation system is controlled through an application for a smartphone or tablet. Thanks to a rational approach (depending on the time of day, weather conditions and the owner’s desire), the water consumption on the site can be reduced to 50%.

At the same time, you can adapt the time and volume of irrigation directly to your regional and microclimatic conditions, adding special sensors to the GCI 100 system. So, the system can be combined with soil moisture sensors or with a weather station that will collect temperature data. Also, light sensors are additionally connected to the system and the lighting of the pond or patio is regulated, creating a unique atmosphere.

The Smart Garden Hub system is compatible with Smart Home applications and can work with third-party smart products through the cloud. Thus, in the future it will be possible to connect all parts of smart systems into a common network and manage them from anywhere in the world via a smartphone. Your garden, garden and home will never be left unattended.

The STIHL iMow RMI 422 PC robotic mower will complement the STIHL product line from the spring of 2019. Thanks to the iMow application, users can control the mower from a smartphone or tablet. An additional function allows you to take into account weather forecast data when planning mowing. The mower can be easily incorporated into the Smart Garden system and its operation will be synchronized with weather conditions and watering.

Gasoline Injection Chainsaw

The foundation of the company in 1929 was laid by Andreas Stiel, introducing the public the first two-handed saw with an engine. Then this saw made a splash. Today, the company continued its business and introduced the world’s first electronic chainsaw, which will be built in the MS 500i series and will be available from dealers in 2019. At STIHL media day, a new saw was presented by Marco Trabert himself, the reigning world champion. Marco in August 2018 won first place at the World Lumberjack Championships in Lillehammer. The judges assessed the participants’ ability to work with a chain saw (accuracy, speed and cleanliness of the cut), the quality of the saw service and compliance with safety standards. Marco was recognized as the best lumberjack in the world in 2018 in the individual competition.

On STIHL Media Day, Marco worked with the same chainsaw with which he won the championship. This is the Stihl MS 500i injection saw. The injector provides quick acceleration of the saw chain from 0 to 100 km / h in just 0.25 seconds. The saw has a lightweight design, due to which it is probably the best power-to-weight ratio to date – 1.24 kg / kW.

Cordless Lawnmower STIHL RMA 765 V

The prototype of a new professional wireless lawn mower for large parks. This is a very maneuverable lawn mower (with the function of zero turning the front wheels) with a wide mowing area (63 cm). Powered by a 36-volt lithium-ion battery. Also, the prototype impresses with its low vibration values, i.e. it works very quietly, in addition, it has a lightweight aluminum case (weight 42 kg without battery) and folds compactly for transportation.

The new wireless mower will enter the European market in the second half of 2019.

HLA 56 cordless compact hedge trimmer

Variable height, a large angle for trimming (you can make both tall vertical cuts and near the ground), light weight allow you to work with this trimmer in small gardens and large landscape parks.

Powerful and reliable compact pressure washers: STIHL RE 100, RE 110, RE 120 and re 130

All four models are reliable compact technology with operating pressures up to 135 bar. Sinks are equipped with both a standard rotary nozzle and a flat one. This allows you to work in various conditions, removing surface contamination and already ingrained dried mud.

STIHL trailer

Another interesting prototype that will be of particular interest to professional gardeners and service organizations. It can store, charge equipment on the way to the object and store all information about the technical condition. The trailer has its own alarm system and device for communication with the STIHL cloud space.
