Valeria Cruz and Paulina Mar are two students that could change paradigms in regard to washing clothes. The first studied chemical engineering at the UNAM and the second is studying international business at the IPN. Putting together their knowledge, and to show that good things happen when different professions with the same goal come together, they presented a method for washing using bacteria.

It sounds weird, but the wash bacteria certainly are part of a more sustainable world. Did we forget to use water to wash? Or better yet: You will not require soaps and detergents that pollute the environment in large quantities? It is too early to change the way clothes are washed but mentioned that a commercial product could be on the market in about five years.

The project of these students, called the new system of laundry by bacteria, intends using bacteria to clothing, which would wash function, which means that food from dirt. It said bacteria stay in a liquid, which would be sprinkled on the clothes you want to wash. It is noteworthy that the bacterium used is patented by UNAM, and had only been used to clean metals.

That if, despite the novelty of the product that consumers will accept will be an interesting challenge because in no time foam or any other indicator by which we know is washing clothes is generated. This is where you need some information since they do not wash times mentioned; that is, how long after the applied bacteria can be considered washed clothes.

At the moment, the project was awarded in the eighth edition of the Henkel Innovation Challenge. Hopefully, later we have more news on this technology.
